DUI Defense Attorney in Norristown, Pennsylvania

If you have been arrested for a DUI, it is important to hire an experienced criminal defense attorney immediately to discuss your rights and options. As a prosecutor in the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office - and as a lawyer in private practice since 1999 - I have handled hundreds of DUI cases. I, attorney Henry Hilles, understand the issues facing DUI defendants and am confident that I can help anyone charged with a DUI.

DUI is the one crime that can happen to almost anyone in our society. Good, law-abiding citizens are charged with DUIs every day. Most of these people are not used to being considered a "defendant" or seeing their names on criminal complaints. For many, a DUI arrest is truly an embarrassing and low point in their life. I have helped many good and productive people get the best possible result on their DUI charges so that they can move forward with their life and put this experience behind them.

DUI Issues

It is important to hire a lawyer that knows Pennsylvania's DUI laws and the defenses that are available to people charged with DUI. Your lawyer must also appreciate that law enforcement sometimes make mistakes during DUI arrests and investigations. The police must have probable cause to stop a person suspected of drunk driving. The police have specific timing requirements within which blood-alcohol testing must take place. And, there are specific rules and protocols the police must follow with field-sobriety testing, breath testing and blood testing. I understand these laws and rules and will make sure that the police have followed the letter of the law. Any mistakes by law enforcement can be used by an experienced and prepared attorney to negotiate or win the best possible result in a DUI case.

ARD: Pennsylvania's Accelerated Rehabilitation Program

If you are a first-time offender, you may be eligible for the Accelerated Rehabilitation Program (ARD). The ARD program has substantial benefits for DUI defendants, including no jail time and a greatly reduced license suspension. And, perhaps most importantly, people who complete the ARD program have all their charges legally dismissed. After the charges are dismissed, they may be expunged from the criminal system so that people can maintain their clean criminal record. I have helped many DUI clients obtain admission into the ARD program.
